A difficult challenge I faced at externship was calling people on the phone. During my internship last year at Lions Tigers and Bears it was hard for me to talk to people on the phones because I would have no idea what to say. However, the answer to this problem is quite simple: think logically.
At pillars I was given a task to call every county jail (sheriff's office) in California and find out two things: the county's jail population, and their voter registration policy for the jail. When I would hear from administration "I have no idea what our policy is." instead of thanking them for their time I would ask for documents they could send me or other people that might be able to answer my question. Most of the time I would be questioned and even sassed, but I knew if I could get one policy out of a county I could get them all.
I would like to show one of the policies I obtained through email, but it is apparently against the law for me to share it.
